Good News for Home Buyers in Mumbai, Government Approves Mega PMAY Housing Project in Borivali

Owning a home in Mumbai is a big achievement. Now, this dream is set to come true for many middle- and lower-income families. The Maharashtra government has given the green light to build a large, modern township in Borivali (West) under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-U). This will be the first and biggest affordable housing project of its kind in any metro city in Maharashtra.

The project will be built on 28.84 acres in the Shimpoli and Gorai areas of Borivali. Both the central and state governments are working together on this. The Gorai land belongs to BSNL, while MTNL owns the Shimpoli land. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the transfer of these plots to Maharashtra Housing. The township, which will cost about ₹729 crore, is expected to help the middle class in a big way.

Advantages of Metro and Coastal Road

The main advantage of this township is its location. It is close to two metro stations, making it easier to travel around the suburbs. It will also have direct access to the planned Versova-Dahisar Coastal Road. Once finished, people will be able to reach South Mumbai and business areas like Andheri in just a few minutes.

Who will get the homes, and what amenities will there be?

The project is mainly for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and the Low Income Group (LIG). Each home will be about 450 square feet. The plan is to create not just a place to live, but a smart township. The complex will include top schools, hospitals, playgrounds, and cultural centres. There will also be a skill development centre to help young people find better jobs.

When will work begin?

Trimbak Kasar, Managing Director of Maha-Housing, said the Chief Minister wants the land transfer to happen quickly. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected in the next two or three months. The government aims to finish and hand over the township in the next three to four years.
