Ganga Expressway Industrial Corridor: Uttar Pradesh is no longer limited to just building a network of roads; rather, these expressways are being made the backbone of industrial development. The Yogi government’s new strategy for the 594-kilometre-long Ganga Expressway offers a significant indication in this direction.
This mega corridor, stretching from Meerut to Prayagraj, is now being developed as an “Expressway cum Industrial Corridor” model. The government is developing it as an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC), which will house a vast network of industries, warehousing, and logistics. Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the Ganga Expressway to the nation in Hardoi on April 29th. This is expected to give a new impetus to Uttar Pradesh’s industrial economy.
594-Km Expressway to Become an Industrial Growth Belt
Under the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) plan, 12 Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC) nodes are being developed along the entire 594-kilometre Ganga Expressway. A total of 6,507 acres of land has been earmarked for these nodes. Each node has been designed with its geographical location, transportation facilities, and industrial potential in mind. The government aims to transform this expressway from a mere means of transportation to an “economic growth belt.”
987 Investment Proposals, Potential of ₹46,660 Crore
The IMLC plan has received an overwhelming response from investors. So far, 987 Expressions of Investment (EOIs) have been received, representing a potential investment of approximately ₹46,660 crore. This investment is expected to primarily come in manufacturing units, logistics parks, warehousing, e-commerce supply chains, and the agri-processing sector. Experts believe that the establishment of industries along the expressway will facilitate faster and cheaper freight transportation, reducing production costs and increasing competitiveness.
Balanced Industrial Development in 12 Districts
This corridor will directly connect 12 districts of the state, helping to reduce regional disparities. Industrial activity is expected to grow rapidly, particularly in districts like Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh. These areas could see a significant increase in local employment, trade, and economic activity. The Yogi government’s focus is no longer limited to road construction, but to giving the state’s economy a new direction by linking industry and employment with roads.
Hardoi Could Become a Major Industrial Hub
The Prime Minister’s selection of Hardoi for the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway also reflects the district’s strategic importance. Hardoi is one of the key nodes in the IMLC model. Industrial development is planned on a 335-acre site at kilometre point 282. The government envisions this area as a potential hub for logistics and manufacturing in the future.
Major IMLC Nodes of the Ganga Expressway
The detailed description of the proposed nodes on the Ganga Expressway is as follows:
- Meerut: 10 km, 529 acres
- Hapur: 54 km, 304 acres
- Bulandshahr: 2,798 acres (largest cluster)
- Amroha: 74 km, 348 acres
- Sambhal: 100 km, 591 acres
- Badaun: 189 km, 269 acres
- Shahjahanpur: 255 km, 252 acres
- Hardoi: 282 km, 335 acres
- Unnao: 422 km, 333 acres
- Rae Bareli: 517 km, 232 acres
- Pratapgarh: 555 km, 263 acres
- Prayagraj: 601 km, 251 acres
The strategic planning of all these nodes will transform the expressway into not just a road, but a multi-agent project. The government is working towards transforming it into North India’s largest industrial corridor.
Major preparations underway to make Uttar Pradesh a manufacturing hub
The IMLC model being developed along the Ganga Expressway is being considered a strong step towards making Uttar Pradesh a major manufacturing and logistics hub in the country. If investment proposals materialise, this project will not only boost the state’s GDP but also create employment opportunities for millions of youth. Expressways will not only make travel easier but will also open new avenues for development, investment, and employment.
