Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to present a major gift to Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and the Delhi-NCR region. On Sunday, PM Modi will inaugurate the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also be present at the event.
Prime Minister Modi will flag off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train from Meerut’s Shatabdi Nagar station. The Prime Minister will then travel by metro and inaugurate various development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore in Meerut at around 1 p.m. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that the Prime Minister will also address the people of Meerut during this time.
Highlights of the Meerut Metro
The Meerut Metro is considered one of the fastest metro services in the country. Its speed is approximately 120 kilometres per hour. It will run from Meerut South to Modipuram, connecting the city’s main areas. The metro features modern amenities, including digital ticketing, QR code payments, clean coaches, and enhanced security measures.
The Namo Bharat Train is a high-speed, rapid rail service running between Delhi and Meerut. With the launch of this train, the journey from Delhi to Meerut will now take significantly less time than before. This will provide great relief to people travelling daily for work, education, and business.
Special Features of the Namo Bharat Project
The Namo Bharat Project has been launched to strengthen the modern, fast, and sustainable transportation system in Delhi-NCR. It is a high-speed and high-frequency rail system. Its design speed is 180 kilometres per hour, while the maximum operating speed is 160 kilometres per hour. Its average speed will be around 90 kilometres per hour. This will make travel between Delhi and the surrounding cities much faster and more comfortable than before.
Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor
The total length of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor is 82.15 kilometres. It includes approximately 70 kilometres of elevated track and 12 kilometres of underground track. Approximately 14 kilometres of this project falls in Delhi and 68 kilometres in Uttar Pradesh. The total cost of this mega project is approximately ₹30,274 crore. Financial assistance has also been obtained from international institutions. The central government’s share is 20 percent, the Delhi government’s 3.22 percent, and the Uttar Pradesh government’s 16.78 percent.
