Delhi Adds 200 New Electric Buses, City Moves Closer to Clean Transport

On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched 200 new electric buses from the DTC depot in East Vinod Nagar. This step is part of the city’s push for a cleaner and greener Delhi. The event also included the start of the Delhi-Rohtak interstate e-bus service, the opening of the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal, and the unveiling of a new administrative building at the depot.

The Chief Minister said the government is quickly encouraging electric vehicles to help make Delhi pollution-free. She added that, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, both the country and Delhi are making steady progress. Delhi’s Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, senior officials, and other dignitaries also attended the event.

Inauguration of Four Projects

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government’s projects focus on better connectivity, a cleaner environment, and modern transport for everyone. She called it a special day, as four major projects were launched at once. Many of the new buses are Devi buses, designed to navigate narrow, remote streets, making travel easier for more people.

Important Facility for Passengers

The new Delhi-Rohtak interstate bus service will improve regional connections. CM Rekha Gupta said the new Madanpur Khadar Bus Terminal is an important addition for passengers and will improve travel. She also highlighted the new administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar Depot, noting that improved facilities help staff work more efficiently. The building includes a biometric system and health check-ups to keep bus operations safe and reduce accidents.

Delhi Government’s Electric Vehicle Policy

CM Rekha stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country and Delhi are continuously progressing towards new heights of development. The Delhi Government’s Electric Vehicle Policy is one of the most effective and comprehensive policies in the country.

According to her, a budget of ₹4,000 crore has been allocated for the next four years, under which not only are incentives and road tax exemptions being provided for private vehicles, but also plans are underway to convert school buses and commercial vehicles to electric vehicles gradually.

A Safe, Fast, and Pollution-Free Future

The Chief Minister announced plans for a large EV waste disposal plant in Okhla to handle e-vehicle batteries and protect the environment safely. She said the Delhi Government is committed to a clean, green, and sustainable transport system, aiming for a safer and less polluted future for the city.

At the event, Transport and Health Minister Dr Pankaj Today Singh said, “Today is an important day for Delhi’s transportation sector. The addition of 200 new electric buses to the DTC fleet, the launch of the Delhi-Rohtak Interstate Electric Bus Service, the inauguration of the new bus terminal at Madanpur Khadar and the modern administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar Depot—all of these initiatives reflect our government’s commitment to providing safe, accessible, and world-class transportation facilities to the people of Delhi.”

Preparations to Strengthen the Transport Department

He said that, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s guidance, the Transport Department is working hard to improve. Delhi now leads the country in electric buses, and plans are underway to expand the fleet further to cut pollution and improve travel for passengers. He also said that expanding interstate routes, such as Delhi-Rohtak, will boost regional connectivity.

The government’s goal is not only to increase the number of buses.

Thanks to the hard work of the DTC team, revenue has gone up by about ₹173 crore compared to last year. Dr Pankaj Singh thanked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for her support, saying this success would not have happened without her guidance. The government aims not only to add more buses but also to modernise them, improve efficiency, and make the transport system more citizen-focused. The goal is for everyone in Delhi to have access to good transportation.

200 New EV Buses Will Improve Travel

With 200 new buses, Delhi’s fleet now has over 6,300 buses, including more than 4,500 electric ones. This makes Delhi the city with the largest electric bus fleet in India. The government plans to raise this number to about 14,000 by 2028-29. The new buses have CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking, and features for people with disabilities.

Delhi-Rohtak Interstate E-Bus Service Launched

To improve regional connections, the Delhi government started the Delhi-Rohtak e-Bus service. Earlier, buses ran on routes like Delhi-Sonipat, Panipat, Dharuhera, and Baraut. The new service runs from ISBT Kashmiri Gate or Piragarhi to Tikri Border, passing through Bahadurgarh and Rohtak.

Inauguration of Madanpur Khadar Bus Terminal

The new bus terminal at Madanpur Khadar, near Kalindi Kunj Metro Station, has three bus bays, two passenger sheds, and parking for about six buses. There are toilets and pass-through areas for passengers. The terminal also has a ramp for people with disabilities and a rainwater-harvesting system to conserve water.

Several routes are planned from this terminal. Three buses will run from Madanpur Khadar to Safdarjung Terminal on route 465, and 14 buses on route D-022. Five buses will go from Madanpur Khadar to Nehru Place on route D-8802. In total, 22 buses are planned to operate from this terminal.

Administrative Building at East Vinod Nagar Bus Depot

The depot now has a new administrative building with a ground floor and a first floor, containing 23 rooms, including offices, a canteen, and restrooms. The building is accessible to people with disabilities. It also has a 50,000-litre fire tank for safety and a rainwater harvesting system to save water.
