Hydrogen Buses To Run In Delhi From May 15, New Shuttle Service To Begin In Central Vista

A major step has been taken towards clean mobility in Delhi. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has announced the launch of a new hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in the capital. This service will launch in the Central Vista area of Delhi on May 15, 2026.

This new initiative aims to provide better and easier “last-mile connectivity” to the public. This means that people will have more convenient travel options from metro stations to government offices and important locations. This will reduce dependence on private vehicles and encourage more people to use public transport.

Hydrogen buses will operate here.

This shuttle service will operate between the Central Secretariat Metro Station and Sewa Tirtha Metro Station. It will help government employees and general travellers easily reach key government offices in the Central Vista area. Under this scheme, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has provided two hydrogen-fueled buses to the DMRC. These buses can accommodate 35 passengers at a time. The buses have been equipped with modern technology to provide a safe and comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Buses are equipped with GPS and CCTV cameras.

These buses are equipped with GPS tracking systems, enabling real-time location tracking. CCTV cameras have also been installed to strengthen security. This will monitor the buses, ensure their punctuality, and adherence to the route. This shuttle service will operate from Monday to Friday. However, it will not be available on government holidays. With office commuters in mind, buses will operate during peak office hours.

Bus Timings

In the morning, buses will run from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. In the evening, the service will be available from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The frequency of buses has also been determined. One bus will be available every 30 minutes. One bus will run clockwise, while the other will run counterclockwise. This will reduce waiting times for passengers and make travel easier. These buses will go to Kartavya Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Akbar Road, Baroda House, National Stadium, National Gallery of Modern Arts, India Gate, and Seva Tirtha Metro Station.

Fare Requirements?

Regarding fares, the ticketing system has been simplified for passengers. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets using the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), UPI, and cash payments. Ticket fares are based on distance, ranging from ₹10 to ₹15. DMRC will handle bus operations, ticketing, conductors, and passenger assistance. IOCL will provide drivers and hydrogen fuel. The government believes this project will be a major step towards promoting green mobility and clean energy in India. In the future, similar hydrogen-based transport services may be introduced in other cities across the country.
