Several key points emerged during an inter-ministerial briefing regarding the country’s energy supply and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution. The government has clarified that, for the time being, the supply of domestic LPG and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) remains completely normal, with no cuts imposed. This means that the general public will not have to face any gas shortages. However, keeping potential future challenges in mind, the government is implementing certain significant changes.
10% Additional LPG Quota to be Provided
The most significant decision is that all states will now be allocated an additional 10% LPG quota for commercial gas cylinders. This decision offers particular relief to small traders, *dhaba* owners, and restaurant operators. These groups often faced gas shortages during festivals or periods of high demand; however, this issue is now expected to subside.
LPG Supply to Continue Nationwide
The government also stated that the supply of commercial LPG across the country is continuing without interruption. This implies that the availability of gas for commercial use remains robust.
40% Increase Recorded
There is also good news regarding domestic gas production. The country has recorded an approximately 40% increase in LPG production. This serves as a positive indicator for the government. Nevertheless, officials acknowledge that the gas situation—both globally and domestically—is not yet entirely stable, and challenges may still arise in the future.
Government’s Appeal to the Public
For this reason, the government has issued a specific appeal to the public: residents in areas with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) facilities should switch from LPG cylinders to PNG. This will alleviate the pressure on the gas distribution network, thereby ensuring a more efficient supply for everyone. Furthermore, PNG is considered to be both safer and more convenient.
Online LPG Bookings Reach Record Levels
A major shift has also been observed in the direction of the ‘Digital India’ initiative. The briefing revealed that currently, 93% of all LPG bookings are being processed through online channels. This marks a record high. The government has appealed to the public to refrain from visiting agencies in person to book gas cylinders and to utilise only the official apps or websites for this purpose. This measure will not only save time but also help reduce unnecessary crowding.
The government has also issued a warning urging people not to give credence to any rumours. There is no shortage of gas, and the supply remains completely under control.
Supply Continues via LPG Carrier Ships
Strict measures are also being implemented to ensure that the gas distribution system remains transparent and free from corruption. Recently, surprise raids were conducted at 2,300 LPG outlets across the country. The objective of these raids is to curb black marketing and irregularities. Meanwhile, the Ministry continues to monitor the overall situation closely. The supply of gas via LPG carrier ships remains uninterrupted, and no issues have been reported at any of the ports.
Overall, the government is striving to ensure that both the general public and commercial establishments continue to receive gas without any inconvenience and that future requirements are met promptly.
