Toyota introduced its new-generation Hilux pickup truck last year. It received an updated design and technology, including the IMV platform, which can now support battery-electric powertrains.
Now, it appears the company is preparing to implement these updates for the Fortuner. According to media reports, a camouflaged test model of this SUV has been spotted in Thailand for the first time, revealing a new, tough and agile design.
The front of the new Fortuner appears to be inspired by the 2026 Hilux. It features a vertically aligned front grille with a honeycomb pattern, angled air intakes, and slim LED headlamps at the top. The rear features a redesigned tailgate and bumper, along with slim LED taillamps connected by a light bar. The roof slopes slightly towards the rear, and a new shark-fin antenna is also included.
These features will be available inside.
Inside, the new Fortuner is expected to feature two 12.3-inch screens: one for the digital instrument cluster and the other for infotainment. New materials and updated buttons are expected. Features could include wireless charging, ventilated and power front seats, auto AC, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera.
Platform and Engine
The new Toyota Fortuner will be built on the same IMV platform as the new Hilux. This platform has been updated to accommodate a variety of powertrains, including hydrogen, hybrid, and battery electric options. While the 2026 Hilux is available in electric (EV) form, Toyota has not yet clarified whether an electric (BEV) version of the Fortuner will be available.
Currently, the SUV will only be offered with a 2.7-litre petrol engine and a 2.8-litre mild-hybrid diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 165 bhp and 245 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine produces 203 bhp and up to 500 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.
