Holi 2026 Market to Cross ₹80,000 Crore, Vocal for Local Boosts Holi Sales

This year, Holi, the festival of colours, is bringing a significant boost to traders across the country. According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), this year’s Holi market is expected to generate a turnover of over ₹80,000 crore. This figure is approximately 25 percent higher than last year’s ₹60,000 crore.

Elimination of Chinese Products from the Market

The impact of the Prime Minister’s “Vocal for Local” campaign is now clearly visible on the ground and in the vibrancy of markets. There was a time when Chinese water guns and other items dominated Holi markets. However, since 2021, the situation has changed rapidly, and the market is now completely dominated by indigenous products.

Customers are now prioritising natural colours, herbal gulal, sandalwood, and puja materials made in India. Water guns, balloons, and other items made by local artisans are selling like hot cakes. This is directly benefiting cottage industries and small businesses. The joy evident on the faces of local businesses stems from the end of dependence on foreign markets.

Huge demand for herbal dyes and traditional clothing

People have become increasingly conscious about their health and skin. This has led to a significant increase in demand for herbal and natural dyes, replacing chemical-based dyes. Meanwhile, water guns featuring popular characters like Spider-Man and Chhota Bheem are a major attraction among children.

In addition to colours, the apparel market has also seen a significant boom. White T-shirts, traditional kurta-pyjamas, and salwar suits are being purchased in large numbers for Holi celebrations. Printed T-shirts with the message “Happy Holi” are also being purchased in large numbers. Along with clothing, sales of furnishing fabrics and consumer durables have also picked up.

Delhi’s markets are bustling with activity.

The capital, Delhi, is witnessing the most business activity. According to Praveen Khandelwal, National General Secretary of CAT and Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, Delhi alone is estimated to generate a business of ₹15,000 crore. All the wholesale and retail markets in the city are packed with customers.

Demand for traditional Gujiyas is skyrocketing at sweet shops. Garlands of Gujiyas and specially prepared dry fruit packets are selling like hot cakes. Grocery stores, FMCG products, fruits, flowers, and gift shops are also seeing long queues of shoppers.

Holi Get-togethers Bring Huge Boost to the Service Sector

Holi is not only a festival of colours but also a major festival of social gatherings. Holi get-togethers are being organised on a large scale across the country. In Delhi alone, over 3,000 such events are being organised by various business, religious, cultural, and social organisations.

These events are generating significant profits for the service and hospitality sectors. Banquet halls, farmhouses, large restaurants, and public parks are nearly fully booked. Holika Dahan will take place on March 3rd, and Holi of Colours will be celebrated on March 4th.
