Delhi Tulip Festival 2026 Begins, 3 Lakh Tulips Bloom in Lutyens’ Delhi

More than three hundred thousand tulips have bloomed on the streets of Lutyens’ Delhi. On Monday, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman Keshav Chandra, Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal, and Netherlands Ambassador Marisa Gerards jointly inaugurated the tulip exhibition on the streets of Lutyens’ Delhi and at the Shanti Path Lawn. On this occasion, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra stated that an exhibition on the history of the monuments along the Shanti Path was displayed among the blooming tulips.

He added that, for the second time, the NDMC has made 100,000 tulip bulb pots available for sale to the public. These pots are available at the Shanti Path Lawn, Lodhi Gardens, Nehru Park, Talkatora Gardens, Central Park, and NDMC nurseries (Safdarjung Madrasa, Gurudwara Park, Purana Qila Marg, etc.).

NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal said that, following overwhelming public appreciation over the past three years, the fourth edition of the Tulip Festival has been launched, welcoming spring through grand floral arrangements across New Delhi.

He explained that the NDMC began planting tulip bulbs in 2017–18 as a trial to assess the suitability of the season. This initiative, which began with just 17,000 bulbs, has now become a major annual event. He added that 517,500 tulip bulbs were procured this year, of which 325,000 were for the NDMC and 192,500 were for the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

The NDMC has planted approximately 225,000 tulip bulbs at key locations, including Shanti Path, Central Park (Connaught Place), the Convention Centre, Lodhi Gardens, Talkatora Gardens, Sardar Patel Marg, Mandi House, Windsor Place, Sher Shah Suri Marg, and the roundabout near the Vice President’s House. He said that, in addition, approximately 100,000 tulip bulbs were planted in pots and made available for public purchase.

The NDMC also planted 15,000 bulbs preserved at the Tulip House Conservation Centre in Lodhi Gardens and 20,700 bulbs obtained from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Himalayan Bioresource Technology Research Centre in Palampur. This is the second year in a row that the NDMC has prepared one lakh potted tulip plants for public sale.
