India’s digital payments revolution has now transcended its borders, reaching a key country in the Middle East. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Israel, a landmark agreement was reached, making India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) fully functional in Israel. This represents a significant step forward in the field of digital transactions.
Easing the road for ordinary citizens
The most direct and positive impact of this new system will be on ordinary people who frequently travel to Israel for business, education, or tourism. Indian citizens and businesses will no longer have to rely on heavy foreign exchange or expensive card fees for everyday transactions. You will be able to make secure payments with your mobile phone in the blink of an eye.
This high-level meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has elevated the relationship between the two countries to a new level of “Special Strategic Partnership.” In a joint press conference, PM Modi clearly stated that this is not just an economic agreement but a significant joint initiative to adopt future technologies, which will set new directions for the world.
New Dimensions in Defence, Agriculture, and Space
During this important visit, the discussions between the two leaders were not limited to digital payments. The two countries also agreed to jointly produce and develop advanced weapons, crucial for India’s robust defence needs. Furthermore, special attention was paid to finding technological solutions for civilian nuclear energy, space exploration, and future smart agriculture.
Further expanding cooperation on the global stage, the leaders of both countries expressed a strong resolve to advance important regional development initiatives, such as IMEC and I2U2, at a rapid pace. Taking a firm stand on the serious issue of terrorism, Prime Minister Modi made it absolutely clear that there is no place for terrorism or those who harbour it in a civilised world.
Netanyahu Praises India
On this occasion, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, from the stage, openly praised the excellent performance of the Indian government. He described the Indian administration’s policies as “amazingly efficient,” saying that this excellent meeting of minds and hearts between the two countries is truly remarkable. This high-quality government-level cooperation will bring immense future opportunities for the citizens of both countries.
